Rudy Ethelbah, born on May 2, 1945, in the vibrant community of Whiteriver, Arizona, passed away peacefully at home on September 23, 2026, after a courageous battle with illness. Rudy's life was a testament to resilience, compassion, and a profound faith that guided him through every chapter of his remarkable journey. He was the beloved son of Goodman and Freda (Josay) Ethelbah, who instilled in him the values of kindness and service that he carried throughout his life.
Rudy is now reunited with his parents, his lifelong friend Larry Kent Crosthwait, his cherished sister Etheline, brother-in-law Gregory D. Kinney Sr., nephew Dominic Kinney, and grandson Antonio (Bee) Ramirez, who predeceased him.
Rudy was a man of deep intellect and heart. He pursued his education with dedication, earning a nursing degree and later going to school to become a Franciscan. His career as a Registered Nurse was spent serving the Indian Health Service in both Phoenix and his home of Whiteriver, where he touched countless lives with his gentle care and unwavering commitment. After retiring from nursing, Rudy followed his calling and became a Franciscan, dedicating his life to spiritual service and community support.
Beyond his professional life, Rudy was an avid artist whose paintings were a source of joy and inspiration, often shared generously with family and friends. His creative spirit was matched by his warmth and generosity, qualities that endeared him to all who knew him.
Rudy's legacy lives on through his surviving family members, including his niece Sheila (Reynold) Ramirez, nephew Gregory (Lillian) Kinney, Sister Rena Billy and a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom were touched by his love and wisdom. Rudy's Godchildren include Patyan Kinney, Fabian Ramirez, Kendyl Walker, Nova Walker. Rudy was also survived by his brothers of the Franciscan Diocese and many friends and relatives.
A service celebrating Rudy's life will be held on October 8, 2026, at 6:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi, located on W Elm St., Whiteriver, AZ 85941.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of their choice, honoring Rudy's lifelong commitment to giving. Rudy Ethelbah's life was a beacon of hope and love, and his presence will be missed but forever cherished by those who had the privilege to know him. His spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, a testament to a life well-lived and a heart well-loved.
