Robert Harmon Quackenbush Jr., a beloved husband, father, and community member, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, at the age of 79, in Clay Springs, Arizona. Born on October 17, 1945, in Long Beach, California, Robert was a proud resident of Arizona since 1973, where he contributed immensely to his community and shared his passion for life with those around him.
Robert married Janet Wolfe, on March 22, 1968. Together, they raised two sons, Robert (Jackie) and Eric (Becky) Quackenbush, and were blessed with three grandchildren, Emma, Matthew and Robert, who adored their grandfather. Robert is also survived by his sister, Carol Hoover, and numerous friends and loved ones who will miss his kindness and spirit.
Robert became a Journeyman Electrician in 1972 and began his career at the Snowflake paper mill, where he worked from 1974 to 1994, retiring as Superintendent of the electrical department. Following his retirement, he pursued a successful career as a Realtor in the White Mountains area for approximately 20 years.
A dedicated coach and mentor, Robert spent many years coaching little league baseball in his community and served as an assistant football coach at Show Low High School for about 15 years, where his leadership helped the team secure two state championships. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in establishing the Clay Springs Pinedale Volunteer Fire Department and served both as a firefighter and board member until 2024.
Later in life, Robert discovered a passion for mountain climbing, summitting several peaks including Mt. Baldy, Humphries in Arizona, Mt. Hood in Oregon, and coming close to summitting Mt. Whitney in California. His adventurous spirit inspired many, and he cherished the memories he created during his climbs.
A graveside service will be held for Robert on Tuesday, September 9th, 2025 at Clay Springs Cemetery at 10am. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate his life and legacy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Clay Springs Pinedale Volunteer Fire Department in Robert's memory.
Robert Harmon Quackenbush Jr. will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his unwavering love for his family, dedication to his community, and zest for life.
