Raymond Myles Daugherty

June 22, 1997 — January 15, 2022

PFC, Raymond “Ray Ray” Myles Daugherty, 24, passed away after a fatal car accident in Show Low, AZ on Saturday, January 15th, 2022. He was born to Scott and Ramona Daugherty on June 22nd, 1997 in Gallup, NM. 

 

Ray grew up in Thoreau, NM. He attended local public and private schools, making many friends along the way. After graduation, Ray enlisted in the Marine Corps. His assignments included Camp Pendleton (CA), Quantico (VA), and Bangor Naval Base (WA). Final decorations included National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Expert Rifle Qualification Badge. 

 

After leaving the Corps, Ray moved to Mesa, AZ. His parents, sister, and nephew also relocated. It was in Mesa that Ray met Athena. Eventually, they decided to purchase land in Show Low and began pursuing Ray’s dream of living off grid with their kids and dogs. A dream the two families have decided to help Athena complete. 

 

Ray is preceded in death by his namesake and grandfather- Raymond Daugherty, grandmother Melva Daugherty, and grandfather Cruz Ortiz. He will live on through his fiancé- Athena Ortiz, his three children- Jacob, Quinton, and Sol, his parents- Scott and Ramona, his sister- Megan, his nephew- Cooper, his grandparents- Bill and Mae James, his adopted brother- Angel, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and more friends than we could count.
