Michelle
Hancock
February 21, 1976 – May 26, 2026
Michelle Kortsen was born on February 21, 1976, in Mesa to Kort and Stephanie (Goodman) Kortsen, and peacefully passed away on May 26, 2026, in Show Low.
Michelle spent her early childhood in Casa Grande, where some of her fondest memories were made playing in the cotton fields and swimming with her cousins during warm Arizona summers. At the age of eight, she moved with her family to Show Low. Though she was less than thrilled about leaving Casa Grande behind, the White Mountains soon became the place she would forever call home, remaining there for the rest of her life.
Michelle attended Show Low schools and formed many lifelong friendships along the way. During her teenage years, she developed a love for volleyball and softball and spent countless hours on the court and field. She often reflected on those years with joy and carried her passion for the game throughout her life. Michelle graduated from Show Low High School in 1994.
In 1995, Michelle married Todd Bingham, and together they welcomed two children, Kyler Todd and Kortni Brooke. In 2003, she married Michael Roman, and in 2006 they were blessed with their daughter, Sarah Elizabeth. Michelle's children were the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with her family.
Michelle earned her Registered Nursing License in 2002, beginning a career devoted to caring for others. Nursing was more than a profession to her-it was a calling. She spent many years at Summit Healthcare, where she helped welcome countless babies into the world. She later continued her career as a dialysis nurse, hospice nurse, and eventually in home health care. No matter where she served, Michelle had a special gift for making her patients feel comfortable, cared for, and loved. Her compassion, gentle spirit, and dedication touched the lives of many throughout her career and community.
Michelle was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Stephanie Kortsen, and her cherished daughter, Kortni Brooke, whom she loved beyond measure.
She leaves behind a family who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts, including her father, Kort Kortsen; her sister, Kelci (Chris) Zampedri; her son, Kyler Todd; and her daughter, Sarah Elizabeth. Michelle also leaves behind her loving nephews, Logan (Brylee), Morgan, and Cannon Zampedri, as well as her niece, Karsyn Zampedri, all of whom brought great joy to her life.
Michelle will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her kindness, compassion, humor, and unwavering love for her family and friends left a lasting mark on the hearts of those fortunate enough to be part of her life. She will forever be remembered by the many people who were special to her and blessed to have been loved by her in return.
