Marlene Amos

November 26, 1940 — July 7, 2023

Linda Marlene Amos, 82, died peacefully at home in Phoenix on July 7, 2023, with family by her side.  She was born on November 26, 1940, in Phoenix to the late Marlen and Winona (Huber) Willis.

Marlene grew up in Phoenix with her parents and older brother, Clyde.  There she went to elementary school, graduated from North High School, and attended Phoenix Community College.

She met her husband, Larry Amos, while he was home on leave from the Navy.  She wrote to him faithfully, and the sailors always knew when he had a letter as the smell of violets scented the mail.  They were married in 1959 and went on to raise five children.  She loved her family deeply, and everything she did was for them.  She was an intricate part of her children’s daily lives and let them know of her love for them every day.  She loved her grand and great-grandchildren, too, and enjoyed visiting them whenever she could.  She was a cherished friend to those close to her and shared her radiant smile with everyone she met.

Marlene was a talented and artistic woman.  She enjoyed drawing, sewing, and crafting.  One of her real joys was cross stitching, and her home had many stitched pictures on the walls.  She was a great cook, and her door was always open to family and friends.  She was known for her chili beans and fry bread.  Marlene enjoyed riding on the backroads of the state with her family, camping and sitting by the river or lake as Larry fished.

Marlene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and held many positions, one of her favorites being the Meetinghouse Librarian.

Marlene is survived by her children: Shawn, Colin (Carol), Shannon, Evan (Erin) and Heather; grandchildren: LaRee (John), Coley, Quince (Jamie), Ellie (Chad), Eli, Ethan (Faith), Eyan and Evey; great-grandchildren Elyce, Kassie, Sadie, Gage, Colter, Brakkon, and Rya; and her brother Clyde (Jackie).

Per her request, a short graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 14, at the Show Low Cemetery.
