Laura Thomas

d. September 11, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laura Thomas, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Laura was born in Phoenix, Arizona, and she passed away on September 11, 2025, after a courageous battle with lung cancer, showing remarkable strength and resilience throughout her journey. Laura is survived by her devoted spouse of 32 years, David Thomas; her mother, Anne Holmstrom; her adoptive stepdad, Gary Holmstrom; her stepmother Bev Lucich; her son Ryan and wife, Julie, and Jay, the newest grandbaby; her stepdaughter Cheyann Osborne and grandchildren Lexie, Parker, and Weston. She was preceded in death by her loving father, Glen Lucich. Throughout her life, Laura was known for her loving spirit, competitive nature, artistic talents, but most of all for her passion for life and her unwavering devotion to her family and friends. Laura was a true Arizona girl – she was 110% lady with her baby blue eyes and a smile that would light up a room. She dressed like a lady but was just at home in a hard-hat and work boots, or western attire.

Laura received a scholarship in Art at Eastern Arizona College, but was most proud of her cosmetology certificate from NPC, which she faithfully renewed annually.  She never failed to give friends a short clip, a full haircut, or artistic nails. Her loyalty to her friends was paramount and unconditional. Three of her favorite things in life were daisies, chocolate-covered strawberries and “Hugs". Laura had a knack for earning the respect of the male-dominated world she was born into. Her philosophy for working in construction was that in order to be accepted, you must out perform their expectations. And she did that superbly -- whether it was a bow-and-arrow, a gun, a fishing pole, home remodeling, wielding a hammer, trimming woodwork, painting artistic walls, or driving a 45,000 lb. blade. Her competitive spirit had no boundaries and she was truly an inspiration to everyone.

A “Celebration of Laura’s Life” will be held at Pete’s Retreat in Lakeside, AZ on Saturday, September 27, starting at 10:00 a.m. The service will be informal. (Her ashes will be scattered by immediate family at a future date.) Her spirit will rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her legacy of unconditional love, strength, and passion for life will continue to inspire all that knew her.

In lieu of flowers, gifts or memorial trees, the family suggests a donation be made to Laura's favorite charity: "St. Jude's Children's research hospital for children with cancer."
