Laura Thomas

d. September 11, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laura Lynn Thomas, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Laura was born in Phoenix, Arizona, and she passed away on September 11, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, showing remarkable strength and resilience throughout her journey.

Laura is survived by her devoted spouse of 32 years, David Thomas; her mother, Anne Abbey-Holmstrom, her adopted stepdad, Gary Holmstrom, her stepmother Bev Lucich, her son Ryan McCray, her step-daughter, Cheyann Osborne, and the brightest lights and true joy of her recent years- her grandchildren: Lexie, Parker, Weston, and the newest addition, Jay. She was preceded in death by her loving father, Glen Lucich. Throughout her life Laura was known for her loving spirit, competitive nature, artistic talents, but most of all for her passion for life and her unwavering devotion to her friends and family.

Laura was a true Arizona girl - she was 110% girly girl, with long eyelashes framing her baby blue eyes and a smile that could light up a room. She dressed like a lady but was just at home in jeans, boots, and western shirts- always looking polished and feminine. She truly earned her scholarship in Art and reveled in her Cosmetology license. Laura never failed to give friends a short clip, a full haircut, or artistic nails, if that is what they wanted (or what she thought they needed). She kept her cosmetology license current for 35 years. (Special thanks to Stormy, the legendary heart and soul of NPC's Cosmetology School.)

She had a knack for earning the respect of the male-dominated world she was born in by outperforming them in the job or task in front of her - whether it was with a bow-and-arrow, a gun, a fishing pole, remodeling a home, wielding a hammer, trimming the woodwork, painting artistic walls, or driving a blade weighing 45,000 lbs. She was a trailblazer in the road construction industry, working as a heavy equipment operator and demonstrating that hard work knows no gender. Laura's 110 lbs of exuberance never held her back from a challenge.

Her competitive spirit had no boundaries. No task was too daunting or beyond her innate ability to embrace the concept and the moment. In short, she was an inspiration to those around her, and made a lasting impression on everyone she met.

A private Celebration of Life will be held in the near future - date, time and location to be determined shortly and will be posted herein. Family and friends will be invited to gather to celebrate her remarkable journey, and the love she shared with so many.

Following the service, Laura's ashes will be lovingly scattered outdoors in the trees by a calm stream in Alpine, Arizona, where she found joy and peace. Her spirit will rest in the arms of our Heavenly Father.

She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her legacy of unconditional love and passion will continue to inspire all that knew her.
