Larry Glen Hicks

September 21, 1945 — September 16, 2021

Larry Glen Hicks died September 16, 2021, at Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Show Low, Arizona of complications of Pneumonia. He was 75 years old. He was born on September 21, 1945, to Marion Elaine (Guthrie) and George Washington Hicks in Moscow, Idaho.

Larry spent his early years hunting, fishing and riding his horse over the hills of Fernwood, Idaho where he grew up. Those were the days when young boys rode horses, packed guns to school, tipped over outhouses on Halloween and did other mischievous boy things. After graduating from St. Maries High School in 1963, Larry spent 4 years in submarine duty with the United States Navy.

Throughout his life, he was well known for his warm, inviting smile, sense of humor, hearty laugh and desire to help others. From a very young age, he had a heart and compassion for protecting the lives of unborn babies.

Larry prided himself in his variety of work experiences, among which were logging, assistant/deputy sheriff, volunteer scuba diving and rescue work in the St. Maries, Idaho area. He worked 16 years with Potlatch Lumber Industries in both labor and management, 10 years with Youth With A Mission, sharing the gospel of eternal salvation only through the death and resurrection of Jesus the Jewish Messiah, followed by 4 years as the Assistant Pastor, near Chewelah, Washington. At the age of 66, he graduated with a degree in Respiratory Therapy, worked 7 years in a rehabilitation center in Tacoma, Washington, then retired, spent the next 2 years fulltime RVing and finally settled in Florence and Show Low, Arizona.

Larry's most passionate endeavor was the 5 years of both volunteer and employment in his retirement, working in Hopeful Treasures Thrift Store in Show Low, which finances a pregnancy center and homes for pregnant women in need. One of his favorite past times throughout his life, and shared with his wife, was shopping yard sales and thrift stores. So, combined with his life-long love and dedication to protecting unborn babies was his passionate commitment to Living Hope Ministries.  On his own time and initiative, he regularly checked dumpsters for useable items, brought them home, repaired them and transported them to the store. Whenever there was a need, folks would say, "get Larry" and he gladly helped.

Larry is survived by his wife, Joan; sons: Corey and Travis and his wife, Donna; a sister, Cyndy Watts; brothers-in-law: Warren Law and Reg Ewert; Aunt Margie Phillips; and cousins: Tim and Cynthia Phillips, Molly and Mike Smith and many nieces and nephews who loved him immensely.

Larry's memorial service will begin 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 19, 2021, at the Caliente Casa Del Sol Annex building in Florence, Arizona and will be officiated by Dan De Velde.
