Joy Call Tanner

September 3, 1943 - October 1, 2026

Joy Call Tanner passed away at 83 years old on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at her home in Taylor, Arizona. Joy was born on September 3, 1943, in Burley, Idaho, to the late Jeremiah Russell Call and Sarah Lavern (Bowcut) Call. She graduated from Mesa High School in 1961. The following year, she married the love of her life, Francis Gale Tanner, on April 13, 1962, in the Mesa Arizona Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Joy and Gale built a beautiful life together and were blessed with six children. Family was at the center of Joy's life, and she devoted herself to raising her children and creating a loving, stable home. As her children grew, Joy also worked outside the home to help provide for her family. She worked as an office manager for Hatch Construction and Show Low Construction for many years. No matter what she was doing, Joy was a hard worker who always put her family first.

Joy found great happiness serving in her church callings, reading the scriptures, attending the temple, baking, cooking, sewing, camping, and spending time with her family. She was a devoted supporter of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and loved attending their many activities. She cherished every opportunity to be surrounded by the people she loved.

In her later years, Joy's constant companion was her little Chihuahua, T.C. The two were nearly inseparable, and T.C. brought her great comfort and companionship.

Joy is survived by her five children: Troy L. (Jennifer K.) Tanner of Pinetop, Arizona; Gaylene (Arnold A.) Ruiz of Gilbert, Arizona; Sharalee (Loren) Yellowhair of Taylor, Arizona; Justin G. (Taralee) Tanner of Snowflake, Arizona; and Janae (Santiago) Ayala of Apache Junction, Arizona; as well as her sister, Ranae Crockett; 18 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren on the way.

Joy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gale Tanner; her infant son, Carl Trevis Tanner; her parents, Jeremiah Russell Call, Sarah Lavern (Bowcut) Call; her brothers, Nolan B. Call, Keith B. Call, Rex Bowcut Call, and Don Robert Call; and her sisters, Norma Tolman, LaDonna Bingham, and Marva Manning.

Joy leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, faith, and devotion to her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, and her memory will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many lives she touched.

A public viewing will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 10:00 A.M., followed by a church service at 11:00 A.M. at Love Lake Chapel, 301 Love Lake Rd Taylor, AZ 85939. The graveside service will immediately follow the church service at Reed Hatch Memorial Cemetery in Taylor, Arizona.
