Joan Fisher Fox Butler Fish, 86, passed away on September 6, 2024, in Show Low, Arizona, alongside her beloved husband, Ferrell Fish, in a car accident.
Joan leaves behind her children, Carrie Goodwin (Ken), Gregory Fox (Connie), and Steven Fox; her sisters, Connie Sears and Lonnie Halls; 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchilden.
Joan's family finds comfort in knowing she is reunited with those who preceded her in death, including her parents, her husband, Bill Butler, her son Brent Fox, her brother Dwight Fisher, her sister Jackie Butler, and two of her grandchildren.
Born on February 25, 1938, in McNary, Arizona, to Winetta Merrell and Raymond Fisher, Joan faced early loss with the passing of her father when she was just one year old. Her mother later married Floyd Rudger Chlarson, who helped raise Joan in Show Low, Arizona. She graduated from Snowflake High School in 1956 and went on to live a life rooted in her hometown. After graduation, she married Leonard Fox,who was serving in the Air Force. They had the opportunity to travel to Japan, Alaska, Texas and Arizona. They eventually settled in Show Low, AZ where they raised their children. In 1998, Joan was sealed to Bill Butler in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. After Bill's passing, she married Ferrell Fish, and together they settled in Pinetop-Lakeside, Arizona, in 2013. Joan and Ferrell served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Idaho, and Joan previously served a mission in Australia.
Joan graduated with her bachelor's degree from Arizona State University and her master's degree from NAU. She dedicated many years to teaching in Show Low. Her students loved and respected her deeply. A woman of steadfast faith, Joan's love for God, family, and community was evident in every aspect of her life. She held numerous callings within her church, touching countless lives with her kindness and service. Joan also served for many years in the temple, a place she cherished. She was a dear friend to many, known for her gentle spirit, generosity, and unwavering compassion. Above all, Joan adored her family and treasured the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.
Funeral services for Joan will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the downtown Show Low LDS Chapel, 300 N 11th St., Show Low, Arizona. A viewing will take place at 9:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m., Concluding Services and Interment will follow at the Show Low City Cemetery, 300 E. Adams, Show Low, Arizona.
