Jimmie Dean Carroll

With much appreciation for all the prayers, visits, and calls, we the family of Jimmie Dean Carroll, announce his passing and return to his heavenly home on August 12, 2024, at the Mayo Hospital in north Phoenix, Arizona. Jimmie was born on October 3, 1965 in Whiteriver, Arizona to the late Veda and Murphy Carroll. He was from the Maternal Dischiidin clan, and the Paternal Nadots'osin clan of the White Mountain Apache. He spent most of his life in McNary, AZ.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, Coach, relative, and friend. Jimmy attended the former McNary High School, then attended and graduated from the former Phoenix Indian Boarding School in May 1984. He was proud to be a McNary Green Devil. He loved playing, coaching, and watching basketball and football. Jimmie was a coach and janitor for over 20 years at the McNary Elementary School. He coached basketball, football, softball, and track & field. He was a hunter and fisherman.

He married Priscilla Shaw Carroll on March 31, 2000 at the McNary LDS Church. They were married for 24 years. Priscilla was the love of his life, together they endured many physical challenges that made them strong. He had a big heart for his community and cared about issues that affected the Apache people. He will be remembered and missed among the tall Ponderosa pines that was a part of him. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints since March 1978.

Jimmie is survived by wife, Priscilla Shaw Carroll; children, Jamila Carroll, Corey Carroll Sr., Jimmie Carroll Jr., Angel Carroll, & Juliet Carroll;  Goddaughters, Monica Lee & Faith Wilson; sisters: Pamela Carroll, (Wilfred Case), Brenda Perry, Felicia Perry; Sheela Carroll, & Shelly Carroll; brothers, Fernando Carroll, Orlando (Wilceta) Carroll, Lancione (Stellyn) Carrol), & Steven Perry.

Jimmie was preceded in death by father, Murphy Carroll; mother, Veda Tessay Carroll; sister, Cynthia Carroll; daughter, Dwan Carroll; grandfathers, Herbert Tessay Sr & Hannon Carroll; grandmothers, Etna Gatewood Tessay & Alice Roosevelt Carroll.

Wake will begin on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the family home on Oak St. at 10 A.M. and the funeral service will be at 1:00pm, Wednesday, August 28, 2024, with services at the family home. Jimmie will be laid to rest at the McNary Ponderosa Pines Cemetery. The family invites and welcomes Tribal dignitaries, relatives, friends, speakers and singers to share memories, testimony, and songs to attend.
