Herbert Wayne Cosay, born January 23, 1951, in Whiteriver, Arizona, went home to be with the Lord on October 15, 2025, at Banner Desert Hospital in Mesa, Arizona.
He was the son of the late Thelma Yazzie, and the grandson of the late Rufus and Clarice Altaha, who raised him while growing up.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Cosay; two sons, Donavon Rougeaux and Durand Rougeaux; one daughter, Alexis Rougeaux; two brothers, George Hendricks and Benjamin Hendricks; and two sisters, George Ann Hendricks, and Caroline Hendricks, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He grew up in the community of Cedar Creek located on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. One of the favorite sports he participated in was rodeo,on and off the reservation, as a calf roper and a team roper. Fishing on the reservation lakes was one of his favorite past times.
In the late 60s, he attended Phoenix Indian Boarding School, graduating from there. After high school, his employer, Datson, sent him to a trade school, earning an auto mechanic certificate. After changing his career path, an employer sent him to Gatewood Community College, where he received training as an Electrician Journeyman; thereby, earning his certificate. Throughout his lifetime, he was consistently employed until his retirement as an Electrician Journeyman.
There will be a one-night wake on October 27, 2025, and his body will be brought back to the residence of Lowell Sr. and Myrna Altaha, House Number 204 West R-14 Crossing Road, in Cedar Creek, Arizona. The funeral service will be held at the Cedar Creek Assembly of God church on October 28, 2025, at 8:00 a.m., in Cedar Creek, Arizona. The burial will be at 1:00 p.m. at the Lakeside Cemetery located at 1266 South Larson Road in Lakeside, Arizona.
