Harry Roy Savel, Jr.

July 18, 1946 — July 2, 2023

Harry Roy Savel, Jr., 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 2, 2023. He was born on July 18, 1946 in McKeesport, Pennsylvania.

Harry spent his childhood exploring different places as his Dad served in the Air Force and relocated often. He often spoke of his love of living in Plattsburg, NY and the speed skating he learned while there. His time living in Morraco as a child brought a love of watching wild animal documentaries, but most of all, his time spent in Roswell, NM had a large impact on him as it sparked his love for the desert while making lots of wonderful memories with his younger brother.

Harry was a Staff Sargent in the Air Force and served in the Vietnam War. After his return from the war, watching his Uncle John work as a carpenter set in motion his love of building. He spent his career climbing the ladder of carpentry, eventually becoming Superintendent on many high profile jobs in Washington, DC to include The White House. Retiring in 2016, his childhood memories led him to make what would be his final move to the deserts of Arizona.

Harry loved a good joke and could recite the stand up shows of Richard Prior and Eddie Murphy verbatim. He watched every Clint Eastwood movie ever made many times over, and was rarely seen without his cowboy boots, jeans, bolo tie, and cowboy hat. He was kind hearted, smart, generous, and enjoyed being around his people.

Harry is survived by his daughter Kimberly Ann Savel of Reisterstown, MD, son Kevin Roy Savel of Lakewood, WA, brother Ace Savel of Seneca, SC, sister Jill Cheke of Lansdale, PA, grandsons Brody Savel Ransom and Logan Savel Ransom of Reisterstown, MD, in addition to his girlfriend Carolyn Ethridge and many other family and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife of many years, Nancy J. Strouse of Laurel, MD, his father Harry R. Savel, Sr. and mother Grace K. Savel of Duquesne, PA, and his sister Linda Morgan of Andover, OH.

A private family service will be held at Owens Livingston Mortuary in Show Low, AZ on Monday, July 17, 2023 at 8:00 am, with a military honors ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Phoenix, AZ on his birthday, July 18, 2023 at 2:30 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at his daughters home. Memorial donations can be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America at vva.org/donate.

Harry will be deeply missed and forever loved.
