Guy Graham Simpson

January 24, 1924 — July 22, 2022

Guy Graham Simpson died Friday, July 22, 2022, at Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Show Low, Arizona from complications of Covid-19. He was 98 years old. Guy was born on a Thursday, January 24, 1924, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to his parents, the late Guy and Rachel (Wilkins) Simpson.

At 17 years of age, while he was still a senior in high school, "They took me out of school to join the military." "They" would be the U.S. Army Air Corps. Though the ravages of war were something he could never forget, Guy, was thankful for the opportunity to serve his country in defending her freedoms. Truly, thousands can attest to the fact that he was a part of America's 'Greatest Generation.' He was able to forge a career out of his military service and, during his 25 years of active duty, he saw the U.S. Army Air Corps become the U.S. Air Force. In his early 40s, Guy was able to retire as a Tech Sergeant. He was a leader who taught through his example: hard work, honesty, kindness and righteous living.

Following his military retirement, Guy realized he had the other half of his life to live and he set out on a new career path. He began working for Bonanza Air then Hughes Air West which later became Republic, Northwest and finally, Delta Airlines. He was with the airlines for more than 20 years and worked as an Aircraft Maintenance Planner. Literally, he was the one who told pilots whether or not a plane was ready for take-off. He took his responsibilities with the airlines very seriously and was greatly trusted by his colleagues.

Guy was a man who, throughout his long life, always put his family first. He was patriarch who lead his brood and taught them to become honest and forthright people. He taught them to love God and to love one another. He was an active member of Show Low's Seventh-day Adventist Church where he served as the head Deacon. He, along with his wife, Juanita, were incredible bowlers. They bowled together for many years and helped their teams win many trophies through the years. He also loved a quiet day fishing on the lake. There, he could take in the beauty of the Lord's creations and found much peace there.

Guy is survived by his wife, M. Juanita Simpson of Show Low, AZ; 7 children: Guy Simpson of Show Low, AZ, Steve (Belia) Benton of Parker, AZ, Marie (Andy) Gerace of Show Low, AZ, Wanda (George) Garcia of Show Low, AZ, Janice Simpson of Spokane, WA, Dorothea "Duffy" (Bob) Cropper of Phoenix, AZ, Noel (Peter) Irick of Phoenix, AZ; 13 grandchildren: Tammy, Troy, Miko, Natalie, Austin, Paul, Cindy, Levi, Jacob, Joanna, Andrew, John Paul, Jeanne Michelle; 26 grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.  Along with his parents, Guy was preceded in death by his grandson, Elijah.
