Gerry Wayne Brewer

Gerry Wayne Brewer of Snowflake passed peacefully on December 10, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving wife and family. The son of Irene and Joseph Lee Brewer of Pinedale, Gerry was born in Snowflake on February 3, 1938. 

Gerry graduated from Snowflake High School in 1956 where he excelled in academics and all athletics, even winning a State Championship in Football (‘55-‘56). After high school, Gerry went on to play basketball and baseball at Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher and then completed his college education at Grand Canyon University where once again he excelled on the basketball court and baseball diamond.

Gerry was a gifted, life-long educator, counselor and coach. He possessed a rare talent for mentoring and motivating the students and athletes of Snowflake High School for over 3 decades. He achieved professional success in administration and guidance, but his true passion was on the fields and courts of athletic competition, coaching several State Champion teams in basketball and softball.

Gerry loved the White Mountains, where he spent untold hours with family and friends, fishing, hunting, cutting wood and cutting more wood. A devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Gerry has held numerous callings and positions of leadership and service within his church and community.

While attending Snowflake High School, Gerry met the love of his life, Joyce Porter from Heber. They were married and sealed to each other for time and all eternity in the Mesa Temple on August 17, 1957. Gerry was preceded in death by his granddaughter Natalie and his brother Ronnie. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; his 6 children, Sher (Billy), Danny (Cami), Don, Shelly (Nathan), Lori (Terry), and D.L. (Gena); 32 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and his 8 siblings.

Viewings will be held on Thursday, December 16, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Owens Livingston Mortuary Heritage Chapel located at 84 East 19th South, Snowflake, Arizona and on Friday, December 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Centennial Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 9th South 2nd West, Snowflake, Arizona. The funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the same location, with subsequent interment at the Snowflake Cemetery.
