Francisco Licano

d. March 20, 2023

Francisco “Frank” Licano passed away on March 20th, at his home in Lakeside, AZ surrounded by his loved ones. He was 89 years young.

Frank was born in Jerome, AZ to Francisco Licano and Rita Quijada Licano. Frank was one of three children.

He spent his early years in Jerome, Ray, Sonora, and Miami, AZ. He learned the value of hard work at an early age and had several jobs which included: packaging groceries, working at JC Penny, and hauling water with a Donkey. He was never afraid to “earn a nickel” he said.

In 1953 he enlisted into the United States Navy, and was stationed in Bremerton, WA. Between then and 1955 he proudly served on the USS Missouri, and the USS Indiana until he was honorably discharged.

He married his beautiful sweetheart Diana Parsons, in Bremerton, WA, on February 22, 1955. After his discharge they moved to Globe, AZ where they had their three children: Rita, Frances, and Michael. Frank did various jobs, and then he began working for the Arizona Dept. Of Transportation as a senior engineer technician, and road maintenance worker, helping build bridges, restoring roads, and many other assignments.

In 1962 he accepted a permanent transfer to Holbrook, AZ, and the family relocated there.  Frank’s hard work paid off, and after 31 years he was blessed to retire at the age of 55. He and Diana traveled some until later years.

In 1989 They “set up shop” as he said, in Lakeside.  His many years of experience in building, engineering, and just being “Frank” always amazed those around him. His attention to detail, and we mean detail, along with his many talents, meant that a job or project wasn’t finished until it was Frank PERFECT!

He is survived by his three children: Rita Phillips, Frances (Bill Abbott), and Michael Licano and sister Josie Licano.  Five Grandchildren: Kevin, Ryan, Megan, Banner, & Miranda. Seven Great Grandchildren: Matthew, Taylor, Kale, Allura, Jacy, Lolita, and Addilynn.

Frank was proceeded in death by his wife Diana, son-in-law John Phillips, his parents, and a sister Cora Esparza.

Frank was proud of his entire family, circle of friends, and he loved each one in their own special way. He never met a stranger.

Special others in his life: Trudy Licano, Gayla Cox, Sheryl Sabir, Camille Cerami, and many, many more.

The Licano family wishes to thank all of those who have participated in his care, and shared their expressions of love and concern.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the White Mtn. Community Center, 1594 Johnson Dr., Lakeside, AZ 85929.

A Memorial Mass will be held 10:00A.M. June 17, 2023 at the St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, 1915 N. Penrod Lane, Pinetop, Arizona 85935.
