Donna Lou Kevan

December 28, 1935 — September 16, 2020

Donna Lou Golnitz Kevan, 84, widow of Charles LeRoy Kevan, passed away on Wednesday, September 16 in her home at Solterra Sr. Living Center in Lakeside, AZ. She was the oldest of five children born to Clarence and Evelyn (Sigler) Golnitz in Storm Lake, Iowa on December 28, 1935.

The Golnitz family lived on a farm in Iowa at that time. She played the trombone in her high school band and was a guard on the women’s basketball team. Later her family moved from Iowa to Longmont, Colorado where she met and married LeRoy. She always called him by his middle name while others called him Chuck.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved children. No matter where she was, she would gravitate to babies and toddlers and talk to them. If she could hug them, she would. Donna became a leader when her daughters joined Girl Scouts. In Pinetop/Lakeside she was an active member of Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church until she was no longer able to travel.

Donna is survived by her daughters, Donna "Kelly" Kevan of Tempe, Arizona, Melody Markis and husband Wayne of Tempe, Arizona; sisters, Norma Shelley, widow of Tom of California; Sandra Fossum and husband, Ron of Washington; and brother, Edward Golnitz and wife Lynda of Wyoming. Grandchildren are Erin Schultz and husband Trevor of Mesa, Arizona; Sean Markis and wife Garnet of Tempe, Arizona; Jade Clark and wife Marika of Union City, NJ; and Patrick Markis of Tempe, Arizona. Great grandchildren Hailey, Ronan, and Athanasios.

She was preceded in death by husband LeRoy, parents Clarence and Evelyn, sister Darlene and nephew Eddie.

The funeral service will begin 3:00 P.M., Saturday, September 26, 2020, at Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church.  The concluding service and interment will take place at Mountain View Cemetery in Longmont, Colorado.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church at 2035 S Penrod Ln, Pinetop 85935.
