Native American artist, proud member of the Kiowa tribe, was able to support his family by painting leather shields and drums, loved to babysit and play with his grandchildren, he NEVER complained and he was always a "glass half full", he was humble, he was happy, and he could always make you laugh, great sense of humor, he was loved by all and always called "Grandpa!"

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Lee Redbird, a beloved talented artist, who left this world on April 18, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on February 29, 1936, in Lawton, Oklahoma, Donald was a proud member of the Kiowa Tribe, whose spirit and creativity were a testament to his rich cultural heritage.
Donald dedicated his life to his family and community. He provided for his loved ones with unwavering commitment. In addition to his professional achievements, Donald was a gifted artist who expressed his love for his culture through painting exquisite leather shields and drums. His artistry reflected the beauty of his heritage and brought joy to those who admired his work.
As a grandfather, he was cherished beyond measure. Donald loved to babysit and play with his grandchildren, fostering laughter and joy in every moment spent with them. Known affectionately as "Grandpa," he had a remarkable ability to light up any room with his infectious sense of humor. He approached life with a "glass half full" mentality, embodying humility and happiness that inspired all who knew him. He never complained and lived each day with a joyful heart, always ready to share a laugh or a kind word.
Donald is survived by his beloved daughters, Melva, Beatrice and Violet; his cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, whose legacy lives on through Donald's life and art.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife , Bernice Marie Redbird; sons, Ronald and Virgil; Parents, Ernest Stinchun Emhee Redbird and Violet Hawzipta Redbird; paternal grand parents, John Henry Emhee Redbird and Tsa Tone Gope; maternal grandparents, James Hawzipta and Ella Toma Twohatchet; and his siblings, Ramona, Geraldine, Aileen, Carol, Sonja Kay, Maxine, Robert, John Henry, Melvin and Marvin.
A public viewing will be held at the Faith Assembly of God Church on April 29, 2025, at 9:00 AM. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 AM, also at the church, where friends and family will gather to celebrate Donald's life. A graveside service will take place at Holbrook Cemetery at 11:15 AM, where we will lay Donald to rest in a manner befitting a man of his great heart and spirit.
As we remember Donald Lee Redbird, let us celebrate his life, his laughter, and the love he shared with all. He will be profoundly missed, but the legacy of his kindness and creativity will forever light our hearts.
