Andre Rousseau of Show Low Arizona, died on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at the age of 90.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Dolores J. McWhinnie. He is survived by his two brothers, Francois and Jean-Marie and preceded in death by his sister, Bernadette, in France, where they were all born and raised.
Andre was a theological scholar, trained at the University of Paris (Sorbonne), the Catholic Institute of Paris, the University of Strasbourg, the University of Grenoble, the Catholic Institute of Lyon, the University of Montpellier (Beirut Lebanon branch) and the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. He held teaching positions in graduate Theology in France (Montpellier, Marseilles), Texas (Houston) and Illinois (De Paul University in Chicago) where he met his wife (University Professor and Research Endocrinologist). Andre received a second graduate diploma in Chicago, a Doctorate in Professional Psychology. He assisted his wife in caring for her African Lion (Lucas), her tiger (Sara Jo), 2 cougars (Max and KC) and their 3 domestic Burmese cats (Meiko, Simba and Topaz). They all behave perfectly together and were ideal residents in the home of Andre and Dolores.
When retired in Show Low, they had to leave behind (in Turpentine Creek, near Eureka, AR) their precious and cuddly Big Cats (due to Arizona laws), who had so well educated people at many university and school sites in Illinois. Locally, though, Drs. McWhinnie and Rousseau endeavored to serve feral, starving, and sickly animals until they had the joy to see the cooperation of Show Low Animal Control and Pet Allies take shape. At home, the surviving cats miss their Dad terribly.
Andre continued his Clinical Psychology Practice, and the couple often traveled back to Europe, the middle East and the USA. Andre's favorite travel was the West Coast from San Diego to Northern Washington State into Canada. Andre was deeply respected by the many people he helped. His global understanding, his sense of compassion, and his unwavering Faith, Hope and Charity. His many friends miss him very much.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 19, 2023 at the Show Low Cemetery in Show Low, Arizona.
